How long will my appointment take?
Answer:
If this is your first appointment, please allow anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
For review appointments, please allow anywhere from 20 minutes to 30 minutes.
Can I get my blood work done earlier than a week before my appointment? Or what if I did not get my blood work done at all?
Answer:
Yes, you can get your blood work done 21 days prior to your appointment. We ask that it is at least a week prior so there is enough time to receive the results. If you did not get your blood work done, this may result in a cancelled appointment. Please contact your nephrologists receptionist and they can guide you to the next step.
How many people should I bring to my appointment?
Answer:
We suggest you bring one support person to your appointment. We ask that you limit the number of people you bring to the appointment as there is limited seating in the waiting room. Please refrain from bringing small children into the hospital.
My family doctor just sent me for blood work, it's probably the same as the requisition you sent me. Do I still need to go for these labs?
Answer:
Yes! As a kidney specialist office, we are sending you for specific kidney lab tests that your family physician would not send you for on a regular basis. Please take the time to get these specific lab tests done so we have all the proper information in order to do a complete assessment of your kidneys.
I just looked at my lab results on eHealth that my kidney doctor requested. Some numbers are in red, so I googled what they mean. My kidneys are failing and I need to get in to see my doctor immediately!!
Answer:
Please do not panic, your kidney doctor receives a copy of your blood work, if there is anything concerning about the numbers, our office will reach out to you immediately and move up your appointment if necessary.
